Ukrop's sold to global chain

25 Ukrop's stores are being sold to some global supermarket giant. Well this sucks. Another casualty for local businesses. This time in my hometown.

If you live in Brooklyn, you need to read this article about hipster racism. Not like there's anything new there, but at least it confirms that working-class people and people of color are not crazy when hipster racism is pointed out.

Now if only there was something to do about it. I've often suggested muggings and acts of random violence, but nobody's taken up the challenge yet.

Just say no

If the Fair Sentencing Act passes, I anticipate legalized marijuana in about 10 years or so. But I wonder what will happen to all the disproportionately incarcerated Black people in jail over crack cocaine. What about the powder cocaine possessors/distributors? Will their sentences increase?

A good idea, to be sure, but I wonder about what will truly come of it.

I actually think of writing for the stage as not writing . . . It's about structuring, about gaps between the language that are really filled in by the collaborators and the process. It's all about indirection rather than a direct statement . . . It's like a three-dimensional chess game in a way. If I say this, will the director go in this direction? If I say this, will the actor respond? And one of the delights of the process is actually not having your intention fulfilled, but finding out at times that other people's interpretation or intention is actually more interesting than you originally thought of.
