I say most because there are some, which deal with race, and/or history, that are, and should be the only exception to casting the best (or closet approximation) actor for the job. If the role calls for a 25 year old, and a 35 year old looks and can carry the part, chances are they'll get the part. When casting a male or female, their biological biology should not be a consideration unless of course, their genital are being cast in which case,a carefully worded audition notice should be posted, along with a certain amount of screening of additional cast members).
It only follows that a narrow mind, lacks the creativity and bravery it takes to ignore stereotypes, and break through the walls of bigotry that still exist in theatre, post the Elizabethan period.iThinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13598561036871644217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4568548679414256493.post-68464064779776724852014-03-05T17:37:24.501-05:002014-03-05T17:37:24.501-05:00It's true that I started having some doubts, r...It's true that I started having some doubts, reviewing what you've written about power structures, and in this last question I was probing to try to find out if I was missing something. It all depends on where you want to do it.

It's possible, but feasibility is another matter, especially when you consider practicalities like enough light to see/read by
(especially during the evening, which is when most people can see a play and most actors can rehearse), seating, weather that is not too cold or too hot or too wet, and so on.

Churches, schools, and so on are other options, but I would have to build a relationship with such a place before I could ask them to give me free rehearsal and/or performance space. They're very far-fetched and might be useless as they are, but you might be able to tweak them into something you can use.

1. If you don't find all that in one person, you might find some of it in one person, and some of it in another, or two or three others. A distributed theatrical soulmate.

2. Imagine a distributed performance. Instead of being in one place at one time, parts of it, or dimensions of it, are in different places at different times. It still exists as one performance in your mind, and if it can exist as one performance in your mind, it can exist that way in the minds of others, if you can find some way to put it there.

3. Abstracting it even further, imagine someone else's cast here, someone else's crew there, a director somewhere else, different people in different places in the different roles you need in your collaborator, each of them doing something that could conceivably evolve into a part of your distributed performance. Imagine that you develop a relationship with each one of them in which it *does* evolve into a part of your performance.

My imagination fails, when it comes to finding some way for this to produce an income ...Jim Habeggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09320817826382769445noreply@blogger.com
